Vitamin E & Organic Selenium
Selenium deficiency

Feeding Instructions:
Vitamin E and selenium work synergistically to combat stress and are vital for proper muscle and nerve function. These nutrients enhance immunity and improve recovery from stress. This product provides 5,000 IU's of Vitamin E and 3 mg of organic selenium in a 2 ounce dose.
Selenium deficiency can cause tying up of muscles, and reduce performance and fertility. Severe deficiency can cause death (white muscle disease). In most cases selenium deficiency is sub-clinical. In this case selenium deficiencies show either no or only subtle signs (such as slightly stiff muscles). In severe deficiency the horse becomes symptomatic usually with muscle dysfunction like tying up. When the symptoms become visible it is called a clinical deficiency.
In selenium-deficient horses the active form of thyroid hormone, T3, isn’t produced at optimal levels, which in turn can cause hypothyroid symptoms. As you can imagine, an IR horse that is selenium deficient is in real trouble. By providing an IR horse adequate levels of selenium your horse has a better chance at producing adequate amounts of T3 to help aid in glucose metabolism and reduce the overall stress on the body.
Selenium is an essential nutrient and it is very important to take a look at the way we feed and supplement this to our animals.
Selenium has several important functions, including the production of antibodies for better immunity, production of thyroid hormone (thyroxine) that can affect growth rates, Vitamin E retention as well as protection against oxidative damage to cell membranes.
